Totem shelf is a freestanding bookcase consisting of a series of stacked volumes. each volume is split diagonally into quarters, creating small frames or dioramas for personal belongings. the totem consists of eight horizontal shelves with rounded edges of various sizes superimposed on each other and supported by “x” spacers that create the overall structure. the horizontal shelves are made with slats worked at an angle of 45 degrees. both the “x” elements and the horizontal shelves are 10 mm thick and have rounded edges. the wood finish is lightly brushed to highlight the solid oak structure and protected with matt transparent water-based varnish.The vertical containment element made of “non-pickled” rough metal panelling with a thickness of 3 mm with final protective waxing done by hand. the totem consists of two separate structures to facilitate movement, which overlay and lock into each other. each structure consists of 4 horizontal shelves with rounded edges of various sizes superimposed on each other by “x” spacers welded to the horizontal elements.
